The Wedding Professionals of Central Florida
collection efforts result in $1800 for the
Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund

The Wedding Professionals of Central Florida is shocked and saddened by the devastation that has occurred as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Over the last days of August and well into September, the destructive effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf region of the United States became distressingly clear. It will be some time before an accurate picture emerges of just how horrible the loss really is. We extend our sympathies to the countless people throughout the area who are experiencing loss and suffering, and to those in the affected states who have been touched by this tragedy. We in this area are uniquely aware of the devastation that can occur from a storm like this, and certainly, our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected in any way.

Over its 14 years, WPCF members and the wedding industry have proven time and time again their concern for others. We asked for your help, and you responded in typical generous fashion.

Because of the magnitude of the Hurricane Katrina destruction, the WPCF Board of Directors approved the establishment of a matching disaster relief fund to which you and other members contributed $450. The WPCF matched that with another $450, and donated the $900 to the funds being collected by The Perfect Wedding Guide at their New Issue Premiere Party on September 19, 2005. Since the PWG was also matching funds collected that night, your efforts resulted in a total of $1800 being raised for The American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund.

Typically, the needs immediately after a disaster are different from those a month or more after the disaster, and the Red Cross is well suited to supply those varying needs. Unfortunately, it is likely that there will be significant need for months to come.

As we reach out to help our fellow citizens in these trying times, we are keenly aware of the strength of our community, the resources we possess, and the salvation that comes from lending support to those in need. Your comments and feedback to this effort are welcome.
